The HSE Dublin and North East is seeking a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the Mental Health Services (MHS) Cavan/Monaghan team on a permanent whole-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced psychiatrist to make a lasting impact in child and adolescent mental health care across the Dublin and Midlands Health Region.
About the Role
As a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, you will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management of young people presenting with complex mental health needs. The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary CAMHS team delivering evidence-based care in accordance with HSE Model of Care for CAMHS and national mental health policy.
The role reports to the Executive Clinical Director, Dr. Mutahir Gulzar, and covers services across Cavan and Monaghan for 37 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the multidisciplinary Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service team for Cavan/Monaghan.
- Deliver clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders.
- Provide clinical supervision, consultation, and training to junior doctors and allied health professionals.
- Contribute to service planning, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within MHS Cavan/Monaghan.
- Liaise with community, educational, and primary care stakeholders to ensure integrated care pathways.
- Participate in the regional on-call rota for Consultant Psychiatrists, as required by service needs.
- Uphold HSE standards of patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical practice.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council Register (Psychiatry).
- Recognised postgraduate qualification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
- Sufficient command of English to effectively discharge duties.
- Relevant experience in CAMHS or similar clinical settings.
Preferred
- Experience within HSE or public-sector multidisciplinary teams.
- Participation in service development or clinical governance structures.
- Interest or experience in teaching and supervision.
