The Health Service Executive (HSE) is recruiting a Consultant in Clinical Genetics (Ref: MECG3862) to join the West and North West region, based primarily at University Hospital Galway, with sessions in Sligo University Hospital and Letterkenny University Hospital. This is a permanent, whole-time position within the public health service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-level clinical genetics services across the assigned hospitals.
- Deliver diagnostic, therapeutic, and counseling services for patients with inherited conditions.
- Support multidisciplinary care and advise on genetic testing and management plans.
- Collaborate with regional and national genetic services to ensure quality of care.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and contribute to medical education.
- Participate in service development, audit, and clinical governance activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered or eligible for registration on the Specialist Division (Clinical Genetics) of the Irish Medical Council.
- Minimum of seven years’ postgraduate experience, including relevant training in clinical genetics.
- Proven leadership and teaching ability within a hospital environment.
- Strong communication, clinical decision-making, and teamwork skills.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Consultant in Clinical Genetics (Code 1937).
- Salary Scale (effective 1 August 2025): In accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales.
- Contract Type: Permanent Wholetime.
- Working Hours: 33 hours per week at University Hospital Galway, 2 hours each at Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospitals.
- Public sector pension and leave entitlements apply under HSE terms and conditions.
