HSE Dublin and South East is seeking an accomplished Consultant Dermatologist for our integrated dermatology service across University Hospital Waterford and Wexford General Hospital. About the Role
As Consultant Dermatologist, you’ll provide comprehensive dermatological care across our Waterford and Wexford sites, delivering 30 hours per week at University Hospital Waterford and 7 hours at Wexford General Hospital. You’ll lead clinical excellence in dermatology services while developing integrated care pathways between both locations. This role reports to the Clinical Director and offers excellent opportunities for service development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead dermatology services across University Hospital Waterford and Wexford General Hospital sites
- Manage complex dermatological conditions including skin cancer diagnosis and treatment protocols
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care pathways
- Develop integrated clinical protocols between Waterford and Wexford dermatology services
- Supervise and train junior medical staff, registrars, and specialty trainees in dermatology
- Participate in on-call arrangements and emergency dermatology consultations as required
- Drive quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based dermatology practice standards
Essential Qualifications
Education: MB BCh BAO or equivalent medical qualification recognized by the Medical Council of Ireland
Experience: Minimum 5 years specialist dermatology experience post-specialist training with demonstrated expertise in general dermatology and dermatopathology
Registration: Full registration with Medical Council of Ireland and specialist registration in Dermatology
Skills: Expertise in dermoscopy, skin cancer surgery, dermatopathology, and modern dermatology treatment modalities
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Certifications: Fellowship in dermatological subspecialties (Mohs surgery, pediatric dermatology, or dermatopathology)
Research Experience: Active involvement in dermatology research, publications, or clinical trials
Leadership Experience: Previous experience in service leadership, protocol development, or medical education
Additional Skills: Experience with teledermatology platforms and multi-site service coordination

Salary: Consultant Contract 2023 scale €231,215 – €277,736 per annum depending on experience and contract type
