About the Role
HSE Dublin and South East is seeking an experienced Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join the multidisciplinary Emergency Department team at University Hospital Waterford. The successful applicant will provide clinical leadership in the assessment and management of emergency cases, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver expert clinical care in Emergency Medicine within a busy tertiary hospital.
- Lead and supervise junior medical and nursing staff.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective patient flow and treatment outcomes.
- Participate in the hospital’s on-call and rota system as required.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and service improvement initiatives.
- Engage in teaching and mentoring of NCHDs and medical students.
- Support HSE values and patient-centred service delivery.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registered, or eligible for registration, in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners (Emergency Medicine) maintained by the Medical Council (Ireland).
- Significant post-registration experience in emergency or acute hospital settings.
- Proven ability to lead and manage within multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
- Research or academic background in Emergency Medicine.
- Prior HSE experience or familiarity with Irish healthcare systems.

- Salary: As per HSE Consultant 169T pay scale, effective 1 August 2025, ranging €217,325 – €261,051 per annum (including LSIs, subject to experience and placement).
