About the Role
The HSE Dublin and Midlands region is seeking an experienced Consultant General Physician to join the multidisciplinary medical team at Regional Hospital Mullingar. This position is ideally suited to a physician with substantial expertise in Stroke Medicine, with a focus on integrating advanced diagnostic technologies to improve patient care and outcomes.
This is a Specified Purpose Whole-time Consultant post within the HSE, offering a rewarding opportunity to lead in clinical excellence, research, and service development within an established hospital team serving the Midlands region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led assessment and management of general medical and stroke patients.
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical care in line with HSE and national standards.
- Utilize advanced diagnostics including Rapid AI and imaging modalities to support accurate decision-making.
- Participate in on-call, multidisciplinary case reviews, and service improvement initiatives.
- Supervise, mentor, and support NCHDs, registrars, and allied health professionals.
- Engage in quality improvement, clinical audit, and continuing professional development.
- Collaborate with senior colleagues in acute medicine and geriatrics to optimize stroke pathways and patient outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council in the specialty of General (Internal) Medicine.
- Proven clinical experience in Stroke Medicine and acute medical care.
- Demonstrated ability to use advanced diagnostic and imaging tools effectively.
- Excellent leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Desirable
- Subspecialty interest or fellowship in Stroke or Acute Medicine.
- Experience in service development or clinical research.
- Familiarity with HSE clinical governance frameworks and digital health systems.
What We Offer
- Salary: HSE Consultant pay scale (Grade 1163) effective from 1 August 2025:
