Join the Health Service Executive (HSE) West and North West as a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Breast Surgery.
This permanent, whole-time post offers an exceptional opportunity to advance surgical services across Letterkenny University Hospital (30 hours per week) and University Hospital Galway (7 hours per week) within an integrated regional network.
About the Role
The successful candidate will provide consultant-level surgical care with a focus on breast surgery, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams in both hospitals.
This dual-site role supports service delivery, clinical governance, and the ongoing development of breast and general surgical services in the region.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive breast and general surgical care at both sites.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure high standards of patient care.
- Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and audit initiatives.
- Provide teaching and supervision to junior doctors and trainees.
- Participate in on-call duties as required by the service.
- Support regional coordination of specialist breast surgical services within the HSE framework.
- Engage in research and service development to enhance patient outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registration on (or eligibility for inclusion on) the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of General Surgery.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCSI) or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience and competence in breast surgery.
Preferred
- Experience in service leadership, research, or teaching.
- Proven contribution to multisite or regional service delivery.
