About the Role
The Health Service Executive (HSE) South West invites applications for the position of Consultant Haematologist (Clinical and Laboratory). This permanent whole-time post spans Cork University Hospital (CUH) and University Hospital Kerry (UHK), providing expert clinical and laboratory haematology services across both sites.
The successful candidate will join an established multidisciplinary team dedicated to excellence in diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative haematology, contributing to patient care, clinical governance, and service development across the South West region.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality clinical and laboratory haematology services to patients at CUH and UHK.
- Lead and participate in haematology ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and laboratory consultations.
- Provide expert input on blood disorders, malignancies, transfusion medicine, and bone marrow pathology.
- Contribute to the training and supervision of medical and laboratory staff, including NCHDs.
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards, laboratory accreditation, and clinical audit processes.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case reviews, and continuous quality improvement.
- Support clinical research and innovation in haematology practice.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council in Haematology.
- Extensive experience in both clinical and laboratory haematology.
- Proven leadership and communication skills within a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
Desirable
- Experience in haemato-oncology and transfusion medicine.
- Record of research, publications, and medical education.
- Interest in service development and quality improvement initiatives.
