Join the HSE South West as a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine (180X), supporting the regional Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Team across Kerry and Cork. As part of the HSE South West medical team, you’ll contribute to the development of integrated rehabilitation pathways and collaborate closely with acute hospitals, community services, and specialist therapy teams. This role combines clinical leadership with strategic planning and offers a platform to make a measurable impact on neurorehabilitation services across the South West region.
About the Role
The successful applicant will provide expert medical input and governance within the Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Service, working 18.5 hours per week within the HSE South West Region. You will join a multidisciplinary team committed to best-practice standards in neurological rehabilitation, ensuring continuity of care between acute and community settings.
This position is aligned with the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine 180X grade under the HSE Medical and Dental Pay Scales (effective 1 August 2025).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive rehabilitation medicine services to adults with acquired or progressive neurological conditions.
- Provide clinical leadership to multidisciplinary teams within the community neuro-rehabilitation programme.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate integrated care pathways in line with HSE national frameworks.
- Collaborate with acute hospitals, primary care, and specialist therapy teams to enhance patient outcomes.
- Participate in teaching, audit, clinical governance, and service development initiatives.
- Engage in continuous professional development and maintain relevant professional competencies.
- Contribute to strategic planning for community-based neuro-rehabilitation services across Kerry and Cork.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registration in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of Rehabilitation Medicine.
- Possession of the necessary academic and professional qualifications for consultant-level practice.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience in service development within community or neurorehabilitation settings.
- Participation in national or regional multidisciplinary rehabilitation initiatives.
- Research or teaching experience in rehabilitation medicine.

Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine 180X salary scale (effective 1 August 2025):
