About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Midwifery, this role provides senior leadership within the maternity service. The successful candidate will assist in the strategic and operational management of midwifery services across the HSE Mid West region, ensuring compliance with national maternity strategy and clinical governance frameworks.

Salary: €71,408 – €88,123 p.a. (as per 1 August 2025 HSE pay scales)
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Director of Midwifery in the planning, development, and evaluation of maternity services.
- Contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality midwifery and neonatal care.
- Oversee workforce planning, professional development, and supervision of senior midwifery staff.
- Drive continuous improvement through clinical audit and evidence-based practice.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve national quality and safety standards.
- Support implementation of HSE and Department of Health maternity policy.
- Promote patient-centred, compassionate, and inclusive maternity care.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Midwife with An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (NMBI).
- Minimum of five years’ post-registration experience in midwifery, including three years at senior level.
- Proven leadership and management experience in a complex clinical setting.
- Strong knowledge of maternity service standards and clinical governance.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in management, leadership, or clinical governance.
- Experience in quality improvement or change management within healthcare.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and team-building skills.
