AbbVie is recruiting a DP Operations Shift Supervisor at its pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Sligo, County Sligo. This is a senior leadership opportunity within a world-class, FDA/HPRA-regulated production environment, offering real scope to shape team performance, drive continuous improvement, and contribute directly to the manufacture of life-changing medicines.

About the Role

Reporting to the DP Operations Leader, the Shift Supervisor oversees the safe, compliant, and efficient production of drug product materials on shift. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will lead a team of up to nine pharmaceutical technicians, manage departmental performance metrics, and act as a Subject Matter Expert for drug product manufacturing issues. You will also represent your area during regulatory inspections and audits, making this a highly visible and impactful role within the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and execute pharmaceutical processing activities to meet operational objectives on shift.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of 4–9 direct reports, ensuring clear communication of tasks, priorities, and goals.
  • Plan and coordinate resources and training schedules to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Measure, report, and take ownership of key departmental performance metrics including yield, rate, material usage, attendance, and overtime.
  • Ensure full compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality SOPs in line with cGMP and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other shift supervisors and internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth interdepartmental operations.
  • Manage employee relations, conduct performance reviews, and develop individual growth plans in partnership with HR.
  • Maintain accurate personnel records and update manufacturing control systems.
  • Support and implement key site and departmental strategic initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement programmes across the department.
  • Set annual goals and provide technical leadership as site SME for DP manufacturing.
  • Represent the department during regulatory inspections and audits.

Requirements

  • Level 8 qualification in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in batch processing operations within an FDA/HPRA-regulated pharmaceutical environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of cGMP and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 3 years’ direct supervisory experience or equivalent relevant training.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and contributing to operational improvement programmes.
  • High attention to detail with a strong commitment to compliance and a “Right First Time” mindset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an innovative, results-driven approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities, with demonstrated integrity and work ethic.
  • Flexibility to work shift patterns in line with business requirements.

Contract Type

Full-time, permanent. Shift work is required, including overtime as applicable to business needs.
