Overview
The HSE Mid West is recruiting for two permanent, wholetime Electrician posts within the Maintenance Department of Older Persons Services. The vacancies are based at Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, and St. Ita’s Hospital, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick. This campaign is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for HSE Mid West Older Persons, from which current and future, permanent and specified-purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration may be filled.
Key Responsibilities
As with all HSE Electrician posts, responsibilities are expected to include the following, subject to verification against the official Job Specification:
- Carry out electrical installation, maintenance, and repair works across hospital and healthcare facility sites
- Diagnose and rectify electrical faults on plant, equipment, and building services
- Ensure all work complies with current electrical safety standards, regulations, and HSE policies
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment
- Respond to emergency call-outs and reactive maintenance requests as required
- Liaise with the Maintenance Manager and wider maintenance team on scheduling and priorities
- Travel to other Acute/Older Persons sites within the HSE Mid West region as required
- Maintain accurate records of work carried out, materials used, and testing/certification as appropriate
Requirements / Essential Criteria
Candidates should note the following draft criteria, which should be confirmed against the official downloaded Job Specification before applying:
- Hold a recognised trade qualification as an Electrician (e.g. National Craft Certificate or equivalent)
- Have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship
- Relevant post-qualification experience, ideally within a healthcare, industrial, or commercial setting
- Knowledge of current electrical safety standards and regulations
- Full clean driving licence, given the requirement to travel between sites
- Eligibility to work in the State
Salary
€42,486 – €48,853 per annum (HSE Electrician, Grade 5096 scale, 11-point scale; no long-service increments apply to this grade), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026 (DoH Circular 2/2026).
Location
Two permanent wholetime posts are available across the following locations:
- Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary
- St. Ita’s Hospital, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick
Post holders will be required to travel to other Acute/Older Persons sites as required.
