About the Role

Take the lead in transforming sepsis care across the Dublin and South East region. As Assistant Director of Nursing & Midwifery – Sepsis, you’ll serve as the regional liaison with the National Sepsis Team while driving clinical excellence in sepsis prevention, early recognition, and management across 11 acute hospitals. This strategic leadership position combines clinical expertise with operational management in one of healthcare’s most critical specialty areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regional sepsis initiatives across 11 acute hospitals in Dublin and South East, ensuring consistent implementation of national sepsis protocols and best practice guidelines
  • Serve as primary liaison between the National Sepsis Team and the Dublin South East Region, facilitating knowledge transfer and policy implementation
  • Develop and implement sepsis education programs for nursing staff, enhancing clinical competency in early sepsis recognition and rapid response protocols
  • Monitor sepsis care quality indicators and outcomes across the region, providing data-driven insights to improve patient safety and clinical effectiveness
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including consultant physicians, emergency medicine staff, and ICU teams to optimize sepsis care pathways
  • Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to nursing staff across emergency departments, medical wards, and intensive care units
  • Support change management initiatives related to sepsis care improvements and new clinical protocols implementation

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
  • Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience with significant acute care experience
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent healthcare qualification
  • Proven leadership experience in nursing management or clinical specialist roles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sepsis pathophysiology, early recognition, and management protocols
  • Experience working within Irish healthcare system (HSE, TUSLA, Section 38 agencies, or statutory health agencies)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or related field
  • Additional certification in critical care, emergency medicine, or infection control
  • Experience in quality improvement projects and clinical audit
  • Previous liaison experience with national healthcare programs
  • Knowledge of HSE clinical governance frameworks and patient safety initiatives
