The Health Service Executive (HSE) is Ireland’s national health service, providing healthcare services to over 5 million people across the country. We are currently seeking a dedicated Catering Assistant to join our team at Cherry Orchard Hospital in Dublin. About the Role
As a Catering Assistant at Cherry Orchard Hospital, you will play a vital role in providing nutritional support to patients, staff, and visitors in our busy healthcare facility. Working within our professional catering team, you will help ensure the delivery of high-quality meals and maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene in our hospital kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals to patients, staff, and visitors in accordance with dietary requirements and hospital standards
- Assist in food preparation including washing, cutting, and basic cooking tasks under supervision
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in kitchen areas, dining rooms, and food service equipment
- Support meal distribution to hospital wards and departments using appropriate food trolleys and service equipment
- Operate catering equipment safely including dishwashers, food mixers, and serving equipment
- Monitor food storage and assist with stock rotation to ensure food safety compliance
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare staff during meal service
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working in the catering industry with experience catering for large numbers in a busy environment
- Food safety awareness with understanding of HACCP principles
- Physical fitness to handle the demands of a busy hospital kitchen environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and bank holidays as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one
- Experience in healthcare or institutional catering
- Knowledge of special dietary requirements for medical conditions
- Customer service experience in a healthcare or similar environment
