The Chef I Older Persons Services Limerick Clare role offers an excellent opportunity to join Older Persons Services within the HSE Mid West region. Based in St. Ita’s Hospital, Newcastlewest, Co. Limerick and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Ennis, Co. Clare, this permanent wholetime position plays a key role in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals to residents in a healthcare setting.
This role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers the stability and benefits of public sector employment while contributing directly to patient wellbeing and quality of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals in line with approved menus and dietary requirements.
- Ensure food preparation complies with HACCP and food safety standards.
- Supervise and support catering staff as required.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in kitchen areas.
- Assist in menu planning in collaboration with dietetics and catering management.
- Monitor stock levels and support ordering and storage procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE policies and health and safety regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant professional cookery qualification.
- Previous experience working in a busy kitchen environment.
- Experience in healthcare or large-scale catering is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, HACCP and hygiene regulations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.

- Salary aligned with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (Chef I Grade 451Y), effective 1 February 2026.
