About the Role

The Clinical Midwife Manager 2 position provides pivotal leadership in midwifery service planning, coordination, and resource management at St. Luke’s General Hospital. This senior clinical role combines hands-on patient care oversight with strategic management responsibilities, reporting directly to the Director of Midwifery while leading multidisciplinary teams in delivering exceptional maternity services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage midwifery services across clinical areas, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and service delivery standards
  • Develop and implement quality assurance programs specific to maternity care, maintaining compliance with national healthcare standards
  • Coordinate resource allocation and staffing for midwifery departments, optimizing skill mix and ensuring adequate coverage
  • Drive staff development initiatives including continuing education, competency assessments, and professional advancement for midwifery teams
  • Facilitate effective communication between midwifery staff, medical teams, and senior management to ensure seamless care coordination
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership in evidence-based practice implementation and policy development
  • Manage departmental budgets and resources while maintaining high-quality maternity care standards

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery or nursing with midwifery qualification from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience with at least 3 years in midwifery services and 2 years in supervisory roles
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
  • Proven leadership and management skills in healthcare environments, particularly maternity services
  • Advanced knowledge of maternity care protocols and evidence-based practice in midwifery

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in healthcare management, midwifery, or related field
  • Experience with HSE policies and procedures in maternity care settings
  • Specialized training in high-risk pregnancy management or neonatal care
  • Quality improvement certification or Six Sigma healthcare training
