The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Clinical Nurse Manager 2 to lead our Alcohol Liaison Service at Cavan Monaghan Hospital. About the Role
This is a permanent, full-time Clinical Nurse Manager 2 position specializing in Alcohol Liaison services at Cavan Monaghan Hospital. As CNM2 for Alcohol Liaison, you will provide clinical leadership and expert nursing care for patients with alcohol-related health issues, working within the Urgent & Ambulatory Care Services framework. The role involves coordinating multidisciplinary care, developing service pathways, and ensuring evidence-based practice in addiction nursing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Alcohol Liaison nursing service, providing clinical expertise in the assessment, intervention, and care of patients with alcohol-related conditions
- Coordinate multidisciplinary approaches to alcohol intervention, working closely with medical staff, social workers, psychiatry services, and community addiction services
- Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based care pathways and protocols for alcohol liaison services within the acute hospital setting
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and educational support to nursing staff in relation to alcohol screening, brief interventions, and referral pathways
- Conduct comprehensive alcohol assessments using validated screening tools and implement appropriate brief interventions and referral to treatment pathways
- Manage staff rosters, workload allocation, and service resources to ensure effective delivery of the alcohol liaison service
- Participate in service planning, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical audit activities related to alcohol intervention services
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a Registered General Nurse (RGN)
- Minimum of 3 years post-registration nursing experience, with at least 1 year in addiction services, mental health, or related specialty area
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in alcohol assessment, brief interventions, and addiction nursing care
- Evidence of leadership and management capability within a clinical nursing environment
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and team-working skills with ability to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development in addiction nursing
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in addiction studies, mental health nursing, or related specialty
- Previous experience in an alcohol liaison, addiction nursing, or dual diagnosis role
- Experience in staff supervision, education, and clinical mentorship
- Knowledge of national alcohol policies, harm reduction approaches, and community addiction services
- Familiarity with HSE clinical governance frameworks and quality improvement methodologies
