Job Overview
This Clinical Nurse Specialist (Adult Diabetes) position is a specified purpose part-time opportunity based at Regional Hospital Mullingar. The role focuses on providing specialist diabetes nursing care to adult patients while supporting integrated multidisciplinary care pathways and improving patient outcomes across the service.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will deliver care aligned with the five core concepts of the CNS role including clinical focus, patient advocacy, education and training, audit and research, and consultancy.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist nursing care for adults attending Regional Hospital Mullingar with diabetes.
- Support patients in managing diabetes through education, monitoring, and evidence-based interventions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Promote best practice standards in diabetes management and patient safety.
- Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development.
- Act as a clinical resource and support for nursing colleagues and healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to patient advocacy and improved healthcare outcomes within the diabetes service.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and comply with HSE policies and professional standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a Nurse on the appropriate division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Relevant experience in diabetes nursing and specialist clinical practice.
- Strong understanding of adult diabetes care and patient-centred service delivery.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
- Experience in education, clinical leadership, or quality improvement is desirable.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary will be aligned with the HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) Grade 2632 pay scale and relevant public sector agreements. This is a specified purpose part-time role within the HSE Dublin and Midlands health region.
