HSE Mid West is seeking a dedicated healthcare professional to join our specialized stroke care team in Limerick. We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate in Stroke Services to provide expert nursing care and support our commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services to the Mid West region.
About the Role
This is a permanent part-time position offering an excellent opportunity to develop specialist expertise in stroke care while working as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will play a crucial role in providing evidence-based nursing care to stroke patients and their families, contributing to improved patient outcomes and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for stroke patients across the care continuum
- Deliver evidence-based stroke nursing interventions in accordance with national and international best practice guidelines
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members including physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists
- Participate in stroke patient and family education programs to promote recovery and prevent secondary complications
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and audit activities within stroke services
- Support and mentor nursing colleagues in stroke care practices and evidence-based interventions
- Participate in continuing professional development activities relevant to stroke nursing specialty
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with NMBI as a Registered General Nurse with current PIN
- Minimum 2 years post-registration experience in acute general nursing
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to developing expertise in stroke care
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in acute stroke care, neurology, or critical care settings
- Postgraduate qualification in neuroscience nursing or related specialty
- Experience with stroke assessment tools and rehabilitation techniques
- Knowledge of current stroke care guidelines and evidence-based practice
