Job Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist Ophthalmology Dublin role offers an exciting opportunity to deliver specialist eye care services within a community primary care setting. Based at Dun Laoghaire Primary Care Centre, this permanent part-time position plays a vital role in supporting patients with ophthalmic conditions across Dublin South and Wicklow.

This position is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants. A panel may be formed to fill current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies within the HSE Dublin and South East Health Region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced specialist nursing care to patients attending the Eye Clinic.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised ophthalmology care programmes.
  • Support early detection, monitoring and management of ophthalmic conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across primary and community care services.
  • Deliver patient education and promote self-management strategies.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with HSE policies and professional standards.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives and clinical audit.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology or a related specialty.
  • Significant clinical experience in ophthalmology or eye care services.
  • Demonstrated competence in specialist assessment and clinical decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

  • Salary aligned with the HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist (Community/Primary Care) Grade 2628 pay scale in accordance with national public sector agreements.
