The Health Service Executive (HSE), Ireland’s national healthcare provider, is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Tissue Viability team at Galway University Hospitals. This is a specified purpose wholetime position offering the opportunity to lead specialized wound management care in one of Ireland’s premier healthcare facilities.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide expert leadership in tissue viability and wound management services at Galway University Hospitals. This specialized role involves delivering advanced clinical care, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and driving excellence in wound care practices across our healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex wounds and tissue viability issues
- Lead and coordinate tissue viability services across the hospital, ensuring evidence-based practice implementation
- Develop and deliver education programs for nursing staff on wound management and prevention strategies
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes in tissue viability care
- Conduct clinical audits and participate in quality improvement initiatives related to wound care
- Provide expert consultation and support to nursing colleagues on complex wound management cases
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to clinical research in tissue viability specialty area
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) as a Registered General Nurse
- Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience with demonstrated expertise in tissue viability/wound management
- Evidence of continuing professional development in wound care and tissue viability
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification in Wound Management or related specialty area
- Experience in clinical nurse specialist or advanced practice nursing roles
- Research experience in tissue viability or wound care field
- Teaching and mentoring experience with nursing staff
Certification Requirements
Candidates must have undertaken or agree to undertake within an agreed timeframe:
- Nurse Prescribing of Medicinal Products Certificate
- Nurse Prescribing of Ionising Radiation Certificate
