Beaumont Hospital, a leading tertiary referral and teaching hospital within the HSE Dublin and North East region, is seeking a Consultant Chemical Pathologist for a permanent wholetime position in Dublin North. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Ireland’s premier healthcare institutions in a specialized consultant role.

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Consultant Chemical Pathologist (Grade 1252) to join our Laboratory Medicine department at Beaumont Hospital. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, cutting-edge laboratory environment while contributing to patient care across our extensive clinical services. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Department and work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical and laboratory interpretation of chemical pathology investigations across all hospital specialties
  • Supervise and manage laboratory operations including quality assurance, method validation, and accreditation compliance
  • Deliver clinical consultations and advisory services to medical colleagues across the hospital network
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical governance activities
  • Lead research initiatives and contribute to academic teaching programs within the hospital
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and maintain laboratory accreditation requirements
  • Participate in on-call rotas and provide emergency laboratory consultation services

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Medical qualification recognized by the Medical Council of Ireland
  • Specialist training and certification in Chemical Pathology (or equivalent international qualification)
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in Chemical Pathology
  • Current registration with the Medical Council of Ireland (or eligibility for registration)
  • Proven experience in laboratory management and clinical consultation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship of Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) or equivalent
  • Experience in advanced analytical techniques and laboratory automation
  • Research experience with peer-reviewed publications
  • Teaching experience in medical education
  • Previous consultant-level experience in Irish or UK healthcare systems
