Job Overview
As a Lead Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimising data infrastructure across the HSE Mid West region. Working within a high-impact technology and transformation function, you will guide data engineering practices, support advanced analytics, and ensure reliable data integration across complex healthcare systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable data engineering solutions across enterprise platforms
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics and reporting needs
- Oversee integration of data from multiple sources including APIs, cloud systems, and on-premise platforms
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define data architecture aligned with organisational goals
- Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance within healthcare data standards
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineering teams
- Support innovation in data warehousing, lakehouse, and modern data frameworks
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data engineering applications
- Experience with modern data engineering frameworks and orchestration tools
- Expertise in cloud services and enterprise data platforms (cloud and/or on-premise)
- Proven experience in data warehousing, lakehouse architecture, and integration technologies
- Strong understanding of APIs and data pipeline development
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Experience working in large-scale or public sector environments is desirable
