St Columcille’s Hospital, part of the HSE Dublin and South East Health Region, is recruiting a Senior Medical Scientist in Biochemistry & Quality. This permanent, whole-time role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services within a leading acute hospital in Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin.
About the Role
The Senior Medical Scientist will play a key role in the hospital’s Biochemistry Department, ensuring compliance with quality standards, supporting laboratory operations, and contributing to patient care. This post is suited to experienced professionals with strong expertise in clinical biochemistry, laboratory quality systems, and diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee biochemistry laboratory services in accordance with ISO 15189 standards
- Manage quality control procedures, audits, and compliance with HSE policies
- Supervise, mentor, and support medical scientist staff and trainees
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely delivery of test results
- Collaborate with clinical teams to optimise diagnostic support for patient care
- Implement new technologies, methodologies, and continuous quality improvements
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice in medical science and biochemistry
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Medical Science (Biochemistry) or equivalent recognised qualification
- Membership or eligibility for membership of Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in biochemistry laboratory services
- Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 15189 quality standards and laboratory accreditation processes
Preferred
- Postgraduate qualification in Biochemistry, Laboratory Management, or Quality Systems
- Experience in a senior or supervisory medical scientist role within the HSE or equivalent healthcare system
- Evidence of continuous professional development in laboratory quality management
