About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Paediatric Phlebotomist to join our team at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. This permanent part-time position requires specialized skills in pediatric blood collection and venipuncture techniques for children of all ages, working as part of our dedicated healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and blood collection procedures on pediatric patients using age-appropriate techniques
- Ensure child safety and comfort during blood collection procedures through specialized pediatric approaches
- Maintain accurate patient records and specimen labeling in compliance with laboratory protocols
- Collaborate with nursing staff and medical teams to coordinate patient care
- Process and prepare blood samples for laboratory analysis following established procedures
- Maintain sterile technique and infection control standards in all phlebotomy procedures
- Provide reassurance and support to children and their families during procedures
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated experience working specifically in paediatric phlebotomy
- Strong technical skills in pediatric venipuncture and blood collection techniques
- Excellent communication skills with children and families
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control procedures
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal phlebotomy training or certification
- Previous experience in acute hospital pediatric settings
- Knowledge of pediatric development stages and age-appropriate care approaches
- Experience with difficult pediatric venous access cases
