Paediatric Staff Nurse – Emergency Department (Children’s) – Letterkenny | HSE

Letterkenny University Hospital, part of the HSE West and North West region, is seeking a dedicated Paediatric Staff Nurse to join its busy Emergency Department. This is a permanent, whole-time opportunity to provide expert, compassionate care to children and their families.

About the Role

As a Paediatric Staff Nurse (Children’s), you will deliver high-quality emergency and acute care to paediatric patients in a fast-paced environment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in clinical decision-making and family-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver safe and effective nursing care to paediatric patients in the Emergency Department.
• Carry out clinical assessments, administer treatments, and monitor patient progress.
• Collaborate with doctors, allied health professionals, and families to optimise patient outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with HSE and hospital policies, protocols, and infection prevention standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation and support continuity of care.
• Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous professional development.

Required Qualifications

Essential

• Registered Children’s Nurse (RCN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligibility to register.
• Demonstrated clinical experience in acute or emergency care settings.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and critical decision-making skills.

Preferred

• Previous experience in a paediatric Emergency Department.
• Additional certifications (e.g., Paediatric Advanced Life Support – PALS).
