University Hospital Kerry, part of the HSE South West region, is seeking a dedicated Porter Supervisor (Grade: Porter – Head 420Y) to join our Support Services team. This permanent, whole-time role is an excellent opportunity to take on a leadership position in hospital operations, ensuring smooth delivery of essential non-clinical services.
About the Role
As Porter Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day management of the hospital portering service, ensuring effective staff deployment, high standards of service delivery, and compliance with HSE policies. This is a supervisory role within the General Support Services Department, playing a vital part in the safe and efficient functioning of hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, allocate, and manage porter staff across hospital departments
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards, policies, and health & safety regulations
- Manage rotas, scheduling, and workforce planning for portering services
- Support recruitment, induction, and ongoing staff training
- Monitor service delivery and implement process improvements where needed
- Liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure smooth operations
- Report to the Support Services Manager on performance and resource needs
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Previous supervisory experience in a general support or facilities role
- Strong organisational, communication, and team leadership skills
- Ability to manage rotas, allocate resources, and maintain service quality
- Demonstrated knowledge of health & safety standards in a healthcare or large-scale environment
Preferred
- Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Training in manual handling, infection control, or facilities management
- Familiarity with HSE systems and procedures

- Standard scale: €40,710 – €47,588
- Supervising 11–20 staff: €39,258 – €40,897
- Supervising 21+ staff: €40,412 – €41,815
