Job Overview

The RANP Injuries Unit Waterford position at University Hospital Waterford offers an exciting opportunity for a Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) or Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner (CANP) to work within the Emergency Department’s Injuries Unit. This permanent wholetime role supports the delivery of advanced clinical care to patients presenting with minor injuries, ensuring timely, evidence-based assessment and treatment in a dynamic acute hospital setting.

This post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and forms part of HSE Dublin and South East services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting to the Injuries Unit.
  • Deliver autonomous, evidence-based nursing care within agreed clinical protocols.
  • Request and interpret diagnostic investigations as appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams within the Emergency Department.
  • Promote patient safety, quality improvement and best practice standards.
  • Participate in audit, research and service development initiatives.
  • Support education and mentorship of nursing and healthcare staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) with NMBI or eligibility for registration.
  • For CANP applicants: registration as a Registered Nurse with active progression toward ANP registration.
  • Significant post-registration clinical experience in emergency or acute care settings.
  • Demonstrated competence in advanced clinical decision-making.
  • Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and quality patient care.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

  • Grade: Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Candidate (General) 2272.
  • Salary Scale (effective 1 February 2026): €71,432 – €80,671 per annum (incremental scale).
  • Permanent Wholetime contract.
