The HSE Mid West, serving Limerick, Tipperary and Clare, is seeking a dedicated Registrar in Anaesthetics to join our specialist team at University Hospital Limerick (UHL). This fixed-term wholetime position offers exceptional training opportunities in anaesthetic practice within Ireland’s leading healthcare system.
About the Role
We are recruiting for a Registrar – Anaesthesia position (Grade 1538) commencing January 2026 at University Hospital Limerick. This role provides comprehensive training in anaesthetic medicine within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary healthcare environment. The successful candidate will work alongside consultant anaesthetists and contribute to delivering high-quality perioperative care across surgical specialties.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide anaesthetic care for patients undergoing surgical procedures across various specialties
- Participate in emergency anaesthetic services and critical care support as required
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and post-operative patient monitoring
- Collaborate with surgical teams, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals in perioperative care
- Maintain accurate clinical records and participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Engage in continuing professional development and training programs in anaesthetic practice
- Support teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and medical students
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Medical degree (MB BCh BAO or equivalent) with full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland
- Minimum 2-3 years post-internship experience in relevant medical specialties
- Eligibility for specialist training in Anaesthetics or current enrollment in anaesthetic training program
- Strong clinical skills with demonstrated competence in acute medical care
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in anaesthetics, intensive care, or emergency medicine
- Advanced life support certifications (ACLS, APLS)
- Research experience or publications in anaesthetic medicine
- Additional postgraduate qualifications in relevant medical specialties
