The Health Service Executive (HSE) is Ireland’s national health service provider, delivering comprehensive healthcare services across hospital and community settings. We are currently seeking a Senior House Officer in Orthopaedics to join our dedicated medical team across Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda and Our Lady’s Hospital Navan in the Dublin and North East region.
About the Role
This is a Fixed Term Wholetime position offering valuable orthopaedic surgery experience as part of your NCHD training pathway. You will work within our orthopaedic department, gaining hands-on clinical experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of musculoskeletal conditions under the supervision of consultant orthopaedic surgeons.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care in orthopaedic surgery including pre-operative assessment, post-operative management, and follow-up care
- Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and on-call rotas as part of the orthopaedic team
- Assist in surgical procedures including trauma surgery, elective orthopaedic operations, and emergency interventions
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records, discharge summaries, and clinical documentation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nursing staff
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings
- Contribute to teaching and supervision of medical students and junior staff where appropriate
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Full registration with the Irish Medical Council or eligibility for registration
- Primary medical qualification (MB BCh BAO or equivalent)
- Minimum 12 months post-internship experience in hospital medicine or surgery
- Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Excellent clinical skills and sound medical knowledge
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in orthopaedic surgery or trauma
- ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) certification
- Interest in pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery
- Experience working within the Irish healthcare system
