The Health Service Executive (HSE) Dublin and South East is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Officer to join the team at Newpark Primary Care Centre, Kilkenny. Job Overview

The Senior Medical Officer will provide clinical leadership and expertise in community child health and immunisation programmes, supporting integrated primary care delivery across the region. The role requires demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in paediatrics and community-based medical services.

A panel may be formed from this campaign for current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies (full-time or part-time), subject to HSE restructuring arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive community-based child health services.
  • Lead and support immunisation programmes in line with national guidelines.
  • Provide paediatric assessment and clinical care in a primary care setting.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary primary care teams.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting standards.
  • Contribute to service planning, quality improvement, and governance initiatives.
  • Provide professional guidance to junior medical and healthcare staff.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Medical degree with full registration on the Specialist Division or General Division of the Medical Council of Ireland (as applicable).
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in community-based child health and immunisation services.
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in Paediatrics relevant to the role.
  • Strong clinical governance and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary is aligned with the Medical Officer, Senior (Grade 183T) consolidated HSE pay scale (effective 1 February 2026):

  • €96,803 – €115,792 per annum (8-point scale, inclusive of LSIs).
  • Public sector pension scheme.
  • Annual leave entitlement in line with HSE policy.
  • Access to HSE professional development and training supports.
  • Permanent whole-time position.

Salary scales are in accordance with Department of Health Circular 1/2025 and the Public Service Agreement 2024–2026 .

Location & Employer Information

This position is based at Newpark Primary Care Centre, Kilkenny, within the HSE Dublin and South East region, which covers Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow and parts of South Dublin.

The role forms part of Ireland’s national public healthcare system under the Health Service Executive.
