We are seeking a Senior Physiotherapist with respiratory expertise to join our dynamic team at Cork University Hospital, Wilton Cork, in a permanent full-time capacity.
About the Role
This senior physiotherapist position focuses specifically on respiratory care within our specialized respiratory unit. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing advanced physiotherapy services to patients with complex respiratory conditions, reporting to the Deputy Physiotherapy Manager while leading clinical excellence in respiratory physiotherapy.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized respiratory physiotherapy assessment and treatment for patients with complex lung conditions
- Lead clinical decision-making for respiratory physiotherapy interventions including airway clearance techniques
- Mentor and supervise junior physiotherapy staff in respiratory care protocols and best practices
- Collaborate with respiratory consultants, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Develop and implement evidence-based respiratory physiotherapy treatment protocols and guidelines
- Conduct patient and family education on breathing techniques, airway clearance, and self-management strategies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audit activities within the respiratory service
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Physiotherapy recognized by CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council)
- Current registration with CORU as a Physiotherapist
- Minimum 3-5 years post-qualification experience with significant respiratory physiotherapy expertise
- Advanced knowledge of respiratory conditions, lung function testing, and specialized physiotherapy techniques
- Experience working within acute hospital environments and multidisciplinary team settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification or specialized training in respiratory physiotherapy
- Experience with mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, and critical care respiratory support
- Previous supervisory or mentoring experience with physiotherapy staff
- Knowledge of current evidence-based practices in respiratory physiotherapy and rehabilitation
