Letterkenny University Hospital is seeking a Senior House Officer (SHO) in Orthopaedics to join its dynamic surgical team within the HSE West and North West region. This is an excellent opportunity for doctors looking to develop their clinical skills in trauma and orthopaedic surgery within a busy acute hospital setting.
The SHO in Orthopaedics role offers hands-on experience in inpatient and outpatient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and exposure to a broad case mix.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide high-quality clinical care to orthopaedic patients under consultant supervision
• Participate in trauma and orthopaedic ward rounds
• Assist in theatre sessions and outpatient clinics
• Assess and manage emergency orthopaedic admissions
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Participate in on-call rotas as required
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)
• Relevant clinical experience in Orthopaedics or General Surgery
• Strong clinical decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute hospital environment
• Eligibility to work in Ireland
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary is aligned with the HSE Senior House Officer (Grade 1012) pay scale.
As per the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales (effective 1 August 2025), the Senior House Officer salary scale ranges from €54,203 to €74,133 depending on point placement .
