Galway University Hospitals are seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker, Medical to join their multidisciplinary healthcare team in Galway. This Social Worker Medical Galway position offers an opportunity to provide vital psychosocial support to patients and families within a dynamic acute hospital setting.
The successful candidate will demonstrate depth and breadth of social work experience relevant to medical services and contribute meaningfully to patient-centred care across inpatient and outpatient services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive social work assessments for patients within medical services.
- Deliver psychosocial interventions and discharge planning in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Support patients and families in complex healthcare situations, ensuring advocacy and safeguarding where required.
- Liaise with community services and external agencies to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with professional standards and hospital policies.
- Participate in case conferences, ward rounds, and clinical meetings.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Social Work.
- Registration with CORU (or eligibility for registration).
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of social work experience relevant to medical settings.
- Strong assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, and best practice guidelines.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary aligned with HSE Grade: Social Worker – Medical (Grade Code 3557) in accordance with public sector pay scales.
- Contract Type: Specified Purpose Wholetime.
