About the Role

University Hospital Waterford is seeking a qualified Speech & Language Therapist to join their multidisciplinary team on a permanent, full-time basis. This staff grade position offers the opportunity to work across diverse clinical areas, providing assessment and intervention services to patients with communication and swallowing difficulties. You’ll be part of the HSE Dublin and South East region, serving the communities of Waterford and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders across various clinical settings
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs and goals
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with HSE and professional standards
  • Participate in service development initiatives and quality improvement projects within the department
  • Provide education and training to patients, families, carers, and other healthcare professionals
  • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to the clinical supervision of students and junior staff

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy recognized by CORU (the health and social care regulator in Ireland)
  • Current registration with CORU as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Excellent clinical reasoning and assessment skills across the lifespan
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in an acute hospital setting
  • Postgraduate training or specialization in relevant clinical areas (dysphagia, neurology, etc.)
  • Experience with electronic patient record systems
  • Knowledge of HSE policies, procedures, and governance structures
