Job Overview
The Staff Midwife Waterford role at University Hospital Waterford offers an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic acute maternity service within the HSE Dublin and South East region. This permanent wholetime position is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and plays a key role in delivering safe, high-quality, woman-centred care in an acute hospital setting.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting mothers, babies, and families through pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postnatal period while maintaining the highest professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive midwifery care across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services.
- Deliver evidence-based, woman-centred care in accordance with national guidelines and hospital policies.
- Monitor maternal and fetal wellbeing and respond appropriately to clinical changes.
- Collaborate effectively with obstetric, neonatal, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to HSE governance standards.
- Support health promotion initiatives and patient education programmes.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement, and ongoing professional development.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.
- Demonstrated competence in acute maternity care settings.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.

- Salary aligned with the HSE Staff Midwife Grade 2143 pay scale in accordance with national public sector pay agreements.
- Permanent wholetime contract (37.5 hours per week).

A panel may be formed from this campaign to fill current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies (full-time or part-time).
