The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, a leading acute voluntary teaching hospital in North Dublin, is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse for our Anaesthesia/PACU department. About the Role
As a Staff Nurse in Anaesthesia/PACU, you will work within our specialized Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, helping to ensure a caring, creative environment while delivering the highest quality nursing care. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care to the highest professional and ethical standards within our established model of nursing care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor patients in the post-anaesthetic recovery phase, ensuring optimal patient outcomes
- Implement comprehensive nursing care plans specific to anaesthesia and recovery procedures
- Collaborate with anaesthetists and surgical teams to provide seamless perioperative care
- Monitor vital signs and manage post-operative complications in the PACU environment
- Educate patients and families about post-anaesthetic care and recovery expectations
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and recovery progress
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols specific to PACU operations
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registered General Nurse with current NMBI registration
- Minimum 2+ years nursing experience, preferably in acute care settings
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to work in fast-paced environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interaction
- Understanding of anaesthesia principles and post-operative care protocols
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous PACU or theatre experience in anaesthesia recovery
- Post-registration qualification in perioperative or critical care nursing
- Experience in teaching hospital environment with multidisciplinary teams
- Advanced life support certification (ACLS/PALS preferred)
