Galway University Hospital is seeking a dedicated and motivated professional for the role of Staff Nurse Emergency Department Galway. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic Emergency Department within a major acute teaching hospital serving the West and North West region.
The successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centred care in a fast-paced emergency setting, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and effective services.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care plans.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency and acute clinical situations.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing and allied health professionals.
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential patient records.
- Adhere to HSE policies, procedures and national clinical guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.
- Support the education and mentoring of junior nursing staff and students where required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Depth and breadth of recent post-registration experience in an Emergency Department and/or hold a relevant qualification in Emergency Nursing (within the last 5 years);
- OR demonstrate recent post-registration medical and/or surgical nursing experience in an acute hospital setting for a minimum of one year (within the last 2 years).
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary in line with the HSE Staff Nurse (General) Grade 2135 pay scale, in accordance with February 2026 consolidated salary scales.
- Permanent Wholetime contract.
