Portiuncula University Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Nurse Galway (General – Medical/Surgical) to join its dynamic nursing team. Key Responsibilities
- Provide high standards of nursing care to patients in medical and surgical units.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised patient care plans.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with hospital policies and NMBI guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
- Support patient discharge planning and continuity of care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control standards at all times.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse with active registration on the General Division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Previous acute hospital experience in medical or surgical nursing is desirable.
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.

- Salary in line with HSE Staff Nurse (General) Grade Code 2135 pay scale, as per February 2026 consolidated salary scales.

Location & Employer Information
This role is based at Portiuncula University Hospital, County Galway, within the HSE West and North West health region.
