The Health Service Executive (HSE) is Ireland’s national healthcare provider, delivering comprehensive health and social care services across the country. We are currently seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse General to join our Older Persons Services team at Carndonagh Community Hospital in Donegal. This is an excellent opportunity offering multiple contract options including permanent wholetime, part-time, and fixed-term positions.

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Staff Nurse General to provide high-quality nursing care within our specialized Older Persons Services unit at Carndonagh Community Hospital. You will be responsible for delivering person-centered care to elderly residents, working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults while developing your expertise in geriatric nursing and community healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to residents in the Older Persons Services unit, including medication administration, wound care, and health monitoring
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Monitor and assess residents’ physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing, documenting changes and reporting concerns appropriately
  • Support residents with activities of daily living while promoting independence and dignity
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals, families, and visitors to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Maintain accurate nursing records and documentation in accordance with HSE policies and professional standards
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities within the community hospital setting

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a Registered General Nurse
  • Minimum 1-2 years post-qualification nursing experience, preferably in older persons services or community healthcare
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills relevant to geriatric care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with elderly patients and their families
  • Current CPR certification and willingness to maintain ongoing professional development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in community hospital or older persons services environments
  • Additional certifications in areas such as wound care, medication management, or dementia care
  • Experience with multidisciplinary team working in healthcare settings
  • Knowledge of HSE policies and procedures
