Brothers of Charity Services Ireland is seeking dedicated and compassionate Staff Nurses to join our Intellectual Disability services in the Athlone/Roscommon area. We have two permanent part-time positions available, offering rewarding opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

About the Role

As a Staff Nurse specializing in Intellectual Disability services, you will provide person-centered nursing care to individuals with intellectual disabilities in our Roscommon service area. This permanent part-time position involves 36 hours per fortnight, working as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to enhancing quality of life and promoting independence for service users. You will report to the Service Coordinator and Area Manager while delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver person-centered nursing care to individuals with intellectual disabilities, respecting individual preferences, choices, and promoting independence
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with service users, families, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Administer medications safely and maintain accurate medication management records in accordance with professional standards and organizational policies
  • Monitor and respond to health needs of service users, including identifying changes in physical and mental health status and implementing appropriate interventions
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members including social care workers, therapists, psychologists, and medical professionals to ensure holistic care delivery
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous nursing documentation and records in compliance with professional and regulatory requirements
  • Support service users in developing life skills and achieving personal goals as outlined in their individual support plans

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability (RNID)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated commitment to person-centered care principles and human rights-based approaches
  • Knowledge of current legislation, regulations, and standards relating to intellectual disability services including HIQA standards
  • Flexibility to work across service locations in the Athlone/Roscommon area as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in intellectual disability services or similar community-based settings
  • Post-registration training or education in intellectual disability nursing or related specialty areas
  • Experience working with challenging behaviors and positive behavior support approaches
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to protecting vulnerable adults
  • Full clean driving license and access to own transport for community-based work
