Brothers of Charity Services Ireland is a leading Section 38 organization providing comprehensive intellectual disability services across Ireland. We are seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join our team in Galway City, delivering specialized care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in a permanent wholetime capacity.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to work as either a Staff Nurse – Intellectual Disability or Enhanced Nurse (Intellectual Disability) within our specialized intellectual disability services. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to providing person-centered care and promoting independence for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized nursing care to individuals with intellectual disabilities across various care settings
- Develop and implement person-centered care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Administer medications and monitor health conditions specific to intellectual disability care
- Support individuals in developing life skills and promoting independence in daily activities
- Collaborate with families and caregivers to ensure continuity of care and support
- Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards
- Participate in emergency response procedures and crisis intervention when required
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with NMBI as a Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse (RIDN) or General Nurse
- Minimum 2 years experience in intellectual disability or related healthcare settings
- Strong communication skills for working with individuals with diverse support needs
- Knowledge of person-centered approaches and best practices in intellectual disability care
- Current manual handling certification and willingness to undertake additional training
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in intellectual disability or related field
- Experience with behavioral support strategies and positive behavior approaches
- Understanding of safeguarding principles and adult protection procedures
- Previous experience in Section 38 organizations or disability service providers
