We are seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at University Hospital Waterford. About the Role
Join our expert neonatal team at University Hospital Waterford as a Staff Nurse specializing in NICU/SCBU care. This permanent position offers you the chance to provide critical care to premature and sick newborns while working alongside Ireland’s leading neonatal specialists. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering the highest standards of neonatal intensive care and special care services in the South East region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates in NICU and SCBU environments
- Monitor and assess neonatal patients using advanced life support equipment and specialized monitoring systems
- Administer medications, treatments, and procedures specific to neonatal intensive care protocols
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including neonatologists, pediatricians, and allied health professionals
- Support and educate families during challenging times, providing compassionate care and guidance
- Maintain accurate documentation and clinical records in accordance with HSE standards and neonatal care protocols
- Participate in emergency resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill neonates
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) as a Registered General Nurse
- Minimum 1-2 years post-qualification nursing experience
- Experience or demonstrated interest in neonatal intensive care or pediatric nursing
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous NICU/SCBU experience or neonatal care training
- Advanced life support certifications (NLS, EPILS preferred)
- Post-graduate qualifications in neonatal or pediatric nursing
- Experience with neonatal ventilation and specialized monitoring equipment
