HSE West and North West is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Older Persons Services team at Killybegs Community Hospital in Donegal. This role offers flexible contract options including permanent and fixed-term positions, both full-time and part-time.

About the Role

Join our specialized Older Persons Services team at Killybegs Community Hospital, where you’ll provide compassionate, person-centered nursing care to elderly patients. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality care in a supportive community hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to older persons in accordance with evidence-based practice and HSE policies
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for elderly patients with complex health needs
  • Administer medications safely and maintain accurate patient records and documentation
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including doctors, physiotherapists, and social workers to optimize patient outcomes
  • Support patients and families through the care process, providing education and emotional support
  • Maintain infection prevention and control measures specific to older persons care settings
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits within the Older Persons Services department

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) as a General Nurse
  • Minimum 2 years post-registration nursing experience, preferably in older persons or acute care settings
  • Current CPR certification and relevant clinical skills competency
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with elderly patients and their families

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Older Persons Services, gerontology, or community hospital settings
  • Additional certifications in dementia care, palliative care, or gerontological nursing
  • Knowledge of person-centered care approaches and age-appropriate nursing interventions
  • Experience working within HSE healthcare frameworks and policies
