Job Overview

The Student Allocations Liaison Officer Galway role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mental Health nurse to lead and coordinate student placements across Galway Roscommon Mental Health Services. Reporting within the Nurse Practice Development Department, this Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (Mental Health) position plays a vital role in supporting clinical education, workforce development, and high standards of patient care.

This permanent opportunity is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and is ideal for a motivated nursing professional with strong leadership, teaching, and coordination experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage student nurse allocations across Mental Health services in Galway and Roscommon.
  • Liaise with higher education institutions and clinical placement partners.
  • Support clinical staff in mentoring and preceptorship roles.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of student clinical placements.
  • Contribute to practice development initiatives within Mental Health services.
  • Provide leadership and guidance aligned with national nursing education standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting relating to student placements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse or Registered Nurse (Mental Health) with active registration.
  • Eligible for appointment at Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (Mental Health) grade.
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in Mental Health nursing.
  • Successful completion of a Teaching and Assessing course (Preceptorship).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with academic institutions and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Access to transport, as travel may be required.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

  • Salary Scale (February 2026): €62,078 – €78,443 (LSI) per annum (pro-rata for part-time), in line with HSE Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (Mental Health) pay scale.
  • Permanent contract with options for part-time (0.5 WTE) or whole-time.

Location & Employer Information

This position is based at the Nurse Practice Development Department, Unit 10B, Merlin Park, Galway, within HSE West and North West. The region covers Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, and Galway, delivering comprehensive community and mental health services.

A panel may be formed from this campaign to fill current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies (full-time or part-time) within Galway Roscommon Mental Health Services.
