Brothers of Charity Services Ireland is recruiting Support Workers (Care Assistant – Disability Services, Grade 6482) to join its Southern Region team in Ballinhassig, Co. Cork. Working as part of a person-centred, community-based service, you will support adults with intellectual disabilities to live self-directed and fulfilling lives. Permanent wholetime (78 hours per fortnight) and part-time opportunities are available, with salary aligned to the HSE Care Assistant (Disability Services) scale.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to adults with intellectual disabilities in residential and community settings.
• Support individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, mobility, meals, and household tasks while promoting independence and dignity.
• Enable people to access community activities, social outings, employment, education, and leisure opportunities in line with their personal goals.
• Implement individual care and support plans, contribute to goal setting, and participate in regular reviews.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with organisational, HIQA and safeguarding requirements.
• Promote choice, rights, advocacy, and inclusion for each person you support.
• Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, communicating clearly with colleagues, families, and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to a safe environment by adhering to health and safety, infection prevention and control, and risk management policies.
• Support positive behaviour strategies in line with organisational guidance and relevant legislation.
• Participate in training, supervision, and continuous professional development as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Experience working in disability services, social care, healthcare, or a similar support role (intellectual disability experience highly desirable).
• A relevant qualification such as QQI/FETAC Level 5 in Healthcare Support, Social Care, or an equivalent related area (or working towards same).
• Understanding of person-centred planning, rights-based approaches, and supporting people with intellectual disabilities and/or autism.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with a compassionate, respectful approach.
• Ability to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, in line with service needs.
• Basic IT and record-keeping skills, with ability to follow policies, procedures, and care plans.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, and high standards of care.
• Full clean driving licence and access to a car is desirable for community-based work.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: Care Assistant (Disability Services), Grade Code 6482, Patient & Client Care.
• Salary: In line with the HSE Care Assistant (Disability Services) salary scale (code 6482). As of 1 August 2025, this ranges from approximately €34,036 to €47,454 per annum (13-point scale), commensurate with experience and pro rata for part-time roles.
• Hours: Permanent wholetime – 78 hours per fortnight, plus part-time roles available.
• Contract type: Permanent wholetime and part-time.
