General Manager, Older Persons Service — University Hospital Limerick
University Hospital Limerick (UHL) is seeking applications from experienced senior health service managers for the post of General Manager, Older Persons Service. This is a permanent, wholetime post offering an opportunity to lead and shape the delivery of older persons services across the HSE Mid West region.
About the Role
The General Manager, Older Persons Service will provide strategic and operational leadership for the full range of older persons services within the HSE Mid West area, encompassing Limerick, Tipperary, and Clare. Working at a senior management level, the post holder will be accountable for service planning, resource management, quality improvement, and the delivery of safe, patient-centred care across the older persons service spectrum.
This role demands a high-performing leader capable of driving service transformation, managing multidisciplinary teams, and working collaboratively across acute, community, and primary care settings to deliver integrated care for older people in the Mid West.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and operational management of older persons services across HSE Mid West.
- Develop and implement service plans aligned with national and regional health priorities.
- Manage budgets, resources, and staffing to ensure efficient, effective service delivery.
- Drive quality, safety, and patient experience improvement initiatives across services.
- Lead service integration between acute, community, and primary care settings.
- Engage with key stakeholders including clinical leads, social care partners, and service user representatives.
- Ensure compliance with governance, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management and relevant committees.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for the HSE General Manager (Grade 0041) grade. Typically, this includes:
- Significant senior management experience within the health or social care sector.
- A strong track record of leading large, complex services or organisational functions.
- Demonstrated experience in financial management, workforce planning, and change management.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland and current employment within the HSE, TUSLA, a Section 38 agency, or a statutory health body (as per WRC Agreement 161867).

Salary
€87,471 – €103,706 per annum (HSE General Manager scale, 7-point scale, no LSIs). Salary is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
Location
University Hospital Limerick (UHL) is the principal acute hospital for the Mid West region, serving a catchment population across Limerick, Tipperary, and Clare. The successful candidate will be based at UHL, with travel across the HSE Mid West region expected as part of the role. UHL is part of the UL Hospitals Group and plays a central role in the delivery of integrated older persons services across the region.
