General Practitioner – Louth & Meath | HSE Primary Care Addiction Service

About the Role

We are seeking a qualified General Practitioner to join our Primary Care Addiction Service team in the Dublin and North East region. This specialized role focuses on providing comprehensive addiction treatment and support services to patients across Louth and Meath counties, working within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical assessment and treatment for patients with addiction disorders
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for substance abuse and addiction recovery
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, social workers, and addiction counselors
  • Conduct regular patient consultations and follow-up appointments in primary care settings
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HSE standards
  • Participate in case conferences and care planning meetings with healthcare colleagues
  • Support patient referrals to specialized addiction treatment services when appropriate

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Medical degree from a recognized institution
  • Full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland
  • Relevant experience in general practice or addiction medicine
  • Demonstrated English language competency (IELTS 7.0 or Cambridge CAE 67/100)
  • Current indemnity insurance and professional memberships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized training or certification in addiction medicine
  • Experience working within the Irish healthcare system
  • Knowledge of addiction treatment protocols and best practices
  • Experience with multidisciplinary team collaboration

English Language Requirements

Important: All applicants must demonstrate English language competency through:

Option 1: IELTS Academic Test with minimum score of 7.0 in all four domains (reading, writing, listening, speaking) taken within the last two years.

Option 2: Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) with minimum overall score of 67/100 and “Good” level in all five skill areas, taken within the last two years.

Exemptions Available: If you completed your medical degree entirely in English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom, or United States, or were registered with the Medical Council in Ireland before July 9, 2012.
