About the Role
University Hospital Waterford (UHW) is seeking a Grade V ICT Officer to join its Information and Communications Technology Department. This permanent role is part of the HSE’s ongoing investment in digital transformation and healthcare innovation across the South East region. The successful candidate will provide essential ICT support, system administration, and project coordination to enhance hospital information systems and clinical technologies.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ICT professional looking to contribute to Ireland’s public health digital infrastructure. You’ll work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team supporting mission-critical hospital systems and ensuring secure, efficient, and reliable ICT operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day ICT support to staff and departments within University Hospital Waterford.
- Assist in the configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of hospital information systems and infrastructure.
- Support hardware and software deployments in line with HSE ICT standards.
- Coordinate with vendors, technical teams, and end-users to resolve system incidents promptly.
- Contribute to ICT projects, upgrades, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Maintain asset registers, documentation, and configuration logs.
- Ensure adherence to data protection, cybersecurity, and HSE governance frameworks.
- Support staff training and promote ICT best practices across departments.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in an ICT support, systems administration, or service desk role.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and enterprise networking.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Eligibility to work in Ireland and compliance with HSE recruitment and Garda vetting requirements.
Desirable
- Experience working in a healthcare, public sector, or large enterprise ICT environment.
- Knowledge of hospital information systems (e.g., PAS, EPR, LIMS, RIS/PACS).
- ITIL certification or equivalent service management experience.
- Experience supporting cybersecurity initiatives or ICT governance standards (e.g., ISO 27001).
