Health Care Assistant – Older Persons Care – Dublin | HSE

HSE Dublin and Midlands is seeking a compassionate Health Care Assistant for our Older Persons Services at Cherry Orchard Hospital, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10. This permanent wholetime role offers excellent career development and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in elderly care.

About the Role

As a Health Care Assistant in our Older Persons Services, you’ll provide essential daily care support to elderly residents within our specialized healthcare facility. You’ll work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team delivering person-centered care while maintaining the highest standards of dignity and respect. This role reports to the Director of Nursing and offers excellent progression opportunities within the HSE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist elderly residents with personal care needs including mobility, hygiene, and daily living activities
  • Support nursing staff in delivering safe, effective care plans tailored to individual resident needs
  • Monitor and record vital signs, food intake, and general wellbeing of residents under supervision
  • Maintain accurate documentation and care records in compliance with HSE standards
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals including nurses, doctors, and allied health staff
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for all residents
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents and their families

Essential Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Previous experience in healthcare, elderly care, or similar caring role preferred
  • Understanding of person-centered care principles

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Physical capability to assist with manual handling tasks
  • Compassionate approach to elderly care
  • Basic computer literacy for record keeping

Preferred Qualifications

  • QQI Level 5 certification in Healthcare Support or related field
  • Manual handling certification
  • Previous experience in hospital or residential care settings
  • Knowledge of HSE policies and procedures
  • First Aid certification
