About the Role
As a Health Care Assistant in our Older Persons Services, you’ll provide essential daily care support to elderly residents within our specialized healthcare facility. You’ll work as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team delivering person-centered care while maintaining the highest standards of dignity and respect. This role reports to the Director of Nursing and offers excellent progression opportunities within the HSE.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist elderly residents with personal care needs including mobility, hygiene, and daily living activities
- Support nursing staff in delivering safe, effective care plans tailored to individual resident needs
- Monitor and record vital signs, food intake, and general wellbeing of residents under supervision
- Maintain accurate documentation and care records in compliance with HSE standards
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals including nurses, doctors, and allied health staff
- Ensure a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for all residents
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents and their families
Essential Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification
- Previous experience in healthcare, elderly care, or similar caring role preferred
- Understanding of person-centered care principles
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Physical capability to assist with manual handling tasks
- Compassionate approach to elderly care
- Basic computer literacy for record keeping
Preferred Qualifications
- QQI Level 5 certification in Healthcare Support or related field
- Manual handling certification
- Previous experience in hospital or residential care settings
- Knowledge of HSE policies and procedures
- First Aid certification
