About the Role

Regional Hospital Mullingar is seeking an experienced Laboratory ICT Lead to manage and advance the information and communications technology systems within its busy Pathology Department. As part of the HSE Dublin and Midlands network, this is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Medical Scientist (Specialist Grade) to lead the integration of laboratory data systems, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all diagnostic workflows.

The successful candidate will act as the key liaison between laboratory professionals, IT specialists, and hospital management to ensure the smooth operation and future development of laboratory information systems (LIS).


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimisation of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Ensure data integrity, system security, and quality assurance within all digital laboratory processes.
  • Collaborate with clinical, scientific, and ICT teams to integrate diagnostic data with hospital systems.
  • Develop and maintain policies and documentation for ICT-related laboratory operations.
  • Manage ICT projects, upgrades, and troubleshooting within the laboratory environment.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to laboratory staff on ICT best practices.
  • Report on system performance, data quality, and compliance with HSE digital standards.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Hold a recognised qualification as a Medical Scientist under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (CORU registration).
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in both Laboratory Science and Information Technology, including project experience relevant to ICT leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of LIMS, data governance, and laboratory data analytics.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with proven problem-solving ability.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the HSE or a comparable public-sector healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with HSE National Laboratory Information System (MedLIS) or equivalent platforms.
  • Proven track record in ICT project delivery and system integration in healthcare settings.
